WE CARE FOR ZAMBOANGA

A resolution was passed by the Quezon City Council to help our brothers and sisters in Zamboanga. Last Monday, October 14, 2013, PR19CC-156 was passed on second reading authorizing the Honorable City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista to extend financial assistance in behalf of Quezon City Government the amount of Two Million Pesos (P2,000,000.00) to the victims of armed conflict between the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) at Zamboanga City, and to support the operations of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the affected barangays thereat during the MNLF aggression on September 9,2013 up to the present. The said amount will be taken from the Office of the City Mayor.

The Quezon City Government on prior occasions had already extended financial assistance like when typoon “Sendong” ravaged the southern portion of the country in 2011, particularly the Cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro pursuant to Quezon City Council Resolution No. 5361, S-2011.

The Government recently announced that its stand-off with the MNLF faction has ended. The fighting may be over but a humanitarian crisis remains in Zamboanga City as more than a hundred thousand displaced residents would need long-term support in rebuilding their homes and lives.

The Honorable Mayor, being the President of the League of Cities of the Philippines finds it necessary to extend financial assistance to the victims of the crisis in Zamboanga City. With this, the whole Quezon City Council headed by Vice Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte is in full support.
