The year 2012 was declared by the Quezon City Government as Tandang Sora Year to honor the legacy of Melchora “Tandang Sora” Aquino. Relative to this, another milestone event will be revealed in the history of QC on January 6, 2013 as this will mark the day of the closing ceremony of the year-long celebration of the Bicentennial Birth Anniversary of the city’s very own heroine as well as the opening of Bicentennial Museum on January 6, 2013 at 4:00 PM at the Tandang Sora National Shrine.

Starting with the transfer of her remains to her birthplace in Barrio Banlat, now known as barangay Tandang Sora in the opening ceremony last January 6, 2012, the Quezon City Government in cooperation with the different institutions such as the Division of City Schools, TriNoma, University of the Philippines-Diliman and Liga ng mga Barangay has initiated activities in honoring the life of Tandang Sora. This year-long celebration has also become a city-wide advocacy in partaking to the citizens the seven virtues of Tandang Sora and its legacy to the people.

As the celebration comes to an end, the culminating activity will feature performances from Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Dulaang Melchora Aquino, awarding of prizes to the Kubo-Making Contest and the opening of Tandang Sora National Shrine Bicentennial Museum, which showcase the Tandang Sora Bicentennial various artworks of visual artists living in QC.

The establishment of the Bicentennial Museum serves as the instrument of the City to continuously share the legacy of Tandang Sora and make it accessible to the residents of Quezon City. Likewise, this will add interest to the community on the life of our national heroine Melchora Aquino.

Individuals, institutions and organizations that took part in contributing to the success of Tandang Sora Year will be recognized during the ceremony.
