RIGHT to a NAME: Child’s Instrument Towards Social Protection

The Quezon City Government, thru Vice Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte, in coordination with the City Civil Registry Department and Division of City Schools has been continuously visiting different schools in Quezon City to support more than a thousand children to Claim their Right to a Name by conducting free birth registration in the various barangays which is in line with the Child-Friendly QC Movement of the City.

This initiative is one of the pursuing programs and mechanisms in the promotion of child rights in Quezon City despite the efforts to achieve 100% registration of all births in the City through Ordinance No. 1610, S-2005, providing exemption of payment of birth registration fee for indigent citizens.

In addition, this program improves the situation that leads to complication during enrolment in school and exposing them to exploitation or involvement in prostitution and criminal activities.

This initiative does not only respond to the issue of late birth registrations but also serves as a lifetime gift and a life-long possession to the children in Quezon City.
