The Joy of Urban Farming as part of the nominees for the Local Government Unit Category is the flagship program of Vice Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte in reducing poverty through hunger mitigation. It was launched last September 27, 2010, which aims to transform idle and vacant lots into productive and garbage-free areas suitable for urban farming or organic gardening that creates a healthy habitat and environment for children and residents of Quezon City. Further, this project will offer an alternative source of livelihood and means of income to the people and contribute to environmental concerns.
