Celebrating 45 years of sister-city relationship with Maui County

A delegation of 24 elected officials from Quezon City Council, Philippines, led by Vice Mayor Josefina Belmonte, visited the Maui County to commemorate the 45th anniversary and further strengthen the sister-city relationship with the county.

Maui County Council Vice-Chair Don S. Guzman, who was born in Cubao, Quezon City, presented the Quezon City officials a copy of the 1970 resolution that established the relationship. Resolution 70-58, introduced by former Maui County Council member Yoneto Yamaguchi, established the sister-city relationship on February 20, 1970. The resolution recognizes then-Maui County Council member Richard Caldito, who was adopted as an honorary member of the Quezon City Council. The Quezon City Council confirmed on March 9, 1970 a Resolution Numbered 8094, S-70 “RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE OFFER OF THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI, HAWAII, U.S.A. FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUEZON CITY AND THE COUNTY OF MAUI”.

The Quezon City delegates were warmly welcomed by the Maui County officials headed by Mayor, the Honorable Alan M. Arakawa, County Managing Director Mr. Keith Regan, Council Chair, Hon. Mike White, Council Vice-Chair, Hon. Don Guzman, and the Maui County Council members.
